This post deals mainly with:

  • business

After pick up the bicycle on Thursday, I eventually used up my first sit on Fri good afternoon through the beautiful residential area of Vedado. We had got held a tropic soaker in the early good afternoon, so the streets were a spot wet and it was about 4 pm or so by the time I acquired extinct. Of course, by that time, rush 60 minutes traffic held already set about and there were chiliads of people in the street, holding back for buses. The bicycle was a pretty fresh mount bike, but it appears that all the gear wheels and derailleurs were whole banged up and I invariably held job with the concatenation. 2 of the 3 chainrings in the front end didn”t work at all and I had got a pretty hard time getting along with the bike.

But even more so than the technical troubles, the stares I acquired from all the topical anesthetics were a truly formidable experience, particularly since there were so a lot of people in the street. You do not realise excessively lots of modern bicycles on the street, and even few are sat by adult females. Of course the cats whistle at you at every crook, that, as I am said, is entirely part of the civilisation and not an ominous motion. Still, I made feel instead unnverved with this experience.

Bicycles in general are basic agency of transit here, not amateur fomites. And reckonning that even a very canonical fresh bike at peradventure USD 100 or so is worth 5, 6 or even 10 calendar months of province remuneration, it’s not surprising that they say you never to allow the bicycle extinct of your sight. And equitation through the streets I nigh matted up as if I was encircled by a grouping of Panthera leos that were ready to swoop to entrance their prey.

So as an effect I distinct, I’d instead not draw that a good deal attending to myself and I distinct to give the bike back to the proprietor. The last affair I treasured is for the bicycle to get slipped, so I distinct I’ll offstage it with regular transit alternatives and do more taking the air, getting some physical exercise at the like time.

In the eventide my ally Pedro and I distinct to pick up the “GuaGua” once again and we occupied a “Camello” (a very big double with 2 humps, forced by a motortruck railway locomotive) from about the Capitolio to the early side of Cuban capital Embayment to the older fort of “El Morro” that was reinforced in th 16th one C. The Camello was so total that one of my pes could not touch the anchorred and the hydraulic doorways coulnd’t close because people were wall hanging extinct the threshold. For sure an experience…..

Every solar day at 9 pm they have a ceremony at the fort where they have a few workforce garmented up in older (colonial?) uniforms and they pip off 2 cannon musket ball crossways the embayment to mark La Habana’s military past. El Morro and Las Cabanas is an interesting area with a museum and legion shops merchandising tourer merchandise. After the ceremony we picked up some other, very much less overstuffed, GuaGua back to the western side of La Habana and we had got some other very low dinner party in the Barrio Chino.

This time my enteric scheme was okay and I picked up a full night’s sleep to take a breather up for the weekend.
